III. THE SOUTHERN ROUTE AND THE RIFT VALLEY LAKES TOURIST ZONE
ZEWAY, ABIATA, SHALLA AND LANGANO

Day 1 : Leave Addis Ababa, drive via Debre Zeit towards Modjo and continue to Lake Zewai. Here you stop for a few minutes viewing and proceed to Lake Abiata(home for hundreds of pink colored flamingos, pelicans and Africans storks). Lunch en route. After lunch, a short swim in Lake Langano. Dinner and overnight at Langano.
Day 2 : Enjoy Lake Langano which is popular for various water sports swimming, sunbathing and camping along the sandy beaches of the only swimmable lake and haven for birds as cormorants, pelicans, hornbills, ducks, vultures, gulls and various species of wood land birds. After refreshment, drive back to Addis Ababa. Lunch en route, dinner and overnight Addis Ababa.
ABIATA, SHALLA, LANGANO AND AWASSA

Lakes Abiata and Shalla are situated in the heart of the Rift Valley Lakes National Park established for conservation of birdlife. The park extends over an area of 800 sq. km. It comprises of both lakes and the surrounding land. The park is a bird sanctuary and wet land reserve in the great Rift Valley. Lunch en route.
The drive from Addis Ababa to Langano takes about four hours. There are two points of entry to the lake. One is at about 195kms from the capital, with roads on each side of a bridge, over the small stream of Haraqelo. These roads lead to camping areas along the North shore. On the North East is a small bay warmed by hot springs that flow from an island near the shore. Dinner and overnight Langano.
In the morning, drive down to Lake Awassa, the smallest lake of the Rift Valley chain. It is one of the remarkable lakes for bird watchers with various species such as marabou storks, herons, pelicans, ducks, darters, geese, crakes, cormorants, king fishers, hammer kops, African fish eagle etc. After lunch, drive back to Addis.
ABIATA, LANGANO, AWASSA AND WONDOGENET

On the first day of the tour, drive to Awassa via Debre Zeit. Lunch en route. Afternoon sight-seeing in Awassa including Lake Awassa. Tabour Mountain, the lake, the town and the fish market. Dinner and overnight Awassa.
The next morning, drive to Wondogenet situated in a virgin forest with hot springs. Overnight Wabishebele Hotel which used to be the summer place of Princess Zenebework. In the morning, drive back to Lake Langano which is popular for various water sports-swimming, sunbathing and camping along the sandy beaches. It is the only swimable lake. Lunch en route. Then drive back to Addis Ababa for the night.
FIVE OF THE RIFT VALLEY LAKES AND AWASH NATIONAL PARK

Drive 275kms South of Addis Ababa to Lake Awassa. Lunch en route. Afternoon, sight seeing in Awassa. Dinner and overnight in Awassa.
After breakfast, the next day tour of Awassa beginning with the fish market and drive to mount Tabor, where you will be welcomed by pretty Sidamo girls wearing beads to entertain you to the tribal dance. After viewing the panorama of Awassa and the surrounding area, continue to Wondogenet(meaning paradise). Here you stop for and a short visit of the forest and hot springs. After refreshment proceed towards Langano. Dinner and overnight at Langano. After breakfast on the 3rd day, drive to Awash National Park. Its wildlife consists mostly of East African plain game with the exception of giraffe, elephant and buffalo. Here it mostly consists of beisa Oryx, Somme ring’s gazelle greater and lesser Kudus, water buck, battered fox, warthog caracal, and the like. Lunch en route. Dinner and overnight at Awash National Park. On the last day drive back to Addis Ababa.
THE RIFT VALLEY LAKES AND ARBAMINCH

After breakfast, drive to Awassa via the industrial part of Addis Ababa. Lunch en route. Afternoon, sight-seeing of Awassa town. Dinner and overnight in Awassa. After breakfast of the 2nd drive to Fish Market and then to Tabour Mountain and have panoramic view over the city and continue to drive to Arbaminch through the beautiful landscape Walayta dotted with local farms and villages to arrive at Arbaminch after visiting Chencha or Dorze village. Dinner and overnight at Arbaminch. In the morning of the 3rd day, drive to Konso to visit the ethnic tribe of Konso and observe their way of life which is usually making crafts, cotton dress, and the social life they enjoy day to day. Return back for overnight in Arbaminch. Early in the morning of the 4thday, drive to Langano. Lunch en route. Rest of the day enjoy Lake Langano. Dinner and overnight at Langano. IV. BALE MOUNTAINS NATIONAL PARK

Leaving Addis Ababa, drive via Debre Zeit, Modjo to Awassa. Lunch en route. Afternoon, drive around Awassa and climb mount Tabour for the panoramic view of Awassa. Dinner and overnight at Awassa. After breakfast, the next day depart for Goba or Dinsho. En route see farmlands and enjoy the scenery of the area. Lunch en route.
Dinner and overnight at Goba or Dinsho. Next morning, pack a lunch box and drive up to Sanete pick and spend the whole day there. Evening back to Goba. In the morning of the 3rd day, drive to the Sof Omer caves with a lunch box. Evening Robe. The next day, drive to Sodere. Enjoy the hot spring at Sodere. Lunch en route. Dinner and overnight at Sodere. On the last day of the tour, drive back to Addis Ababa.
V. HARAR AND DIRE DAWA
HARAR AND DIRE DAWA BY ROAD

Leave Addis Ababa and drive towards Debre Zeit, Modjo, koka and visit the hippo pools. After this tour proceed to Nazareth (Adama) for lunch. After lunch, continue through the magnificent panoramic view of the countryside to Awash National Park. Dinner and overnight in Awash town or camp by the bank of the river. After breakfast the next day, game drive in the national park to see some animals including oryx, greater and lesser Kudus, water bucks, warthogs and various species of beautiful birds. Then visit the spectacular Awash falls and the deep rugged gorges below. Return to camp or Awash town for dinner and overnight.
After breakfast on the 3rd day, proceed towards Harar. Lunch en route. Reach Harar late in the afternoon. After an hour’s rest at your hotel, drive up to town to visit the famed hyena man and see these grotesque animals being fed by hand. Return to the hotel. Morning of the 4th day, sight-seeing of Harar, a 16th century walled city. After lunch, drive to Dire Dawa through Alemaya villages and green fertile plateau. Dinner and overnight at Dire Dawa.
